Invisibles is the least visited of the three double reefs, and the reef is in better condition for it. The current runs harder here more often than at Angel City, which makes the site suited to a drift dive and unsuited to a quiet out-and-back.
Invisibles is an advanced shore dive on the south coast: an inner reef at six to nine metres, an outer reef from twenty-five to forty metres and a current that runs harder more often than at Angel City.
The inner reef at six to nine metres is densely grown with finger coral and sea fans. Tarpon and jacks hunt over the sand flat. The outer reef drops from twenty-five to forty metres and has large vase sponges and black coral in the depths.
In a current you can use rather than fight. In the morning, when the sand has not stirred up and the sun still hangs low enough to bring colour to the inner reef.
The current is the deciding element here and can turn during the dive. The outer reef lies deep and the crossing is longer than at Angel City. Parking on the coast-road verge, no shade, no water, no toilet.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
The name refers to the outer reef, which is invisible from shore: it only looms up after the sand flat. The reef is part of the same old reef ridge as Angel City and Alice in Wonderland.
