Lighthouse Point lies by Punt Vierkant, the point where the west coast turns to the south-east. On a bend like this the current picks up: the reef is more intact than further north, but the dive calls for planning.
Lighthouse Point is an advanced shore dive by Punt Vierkant: a reef top at five to seven metres, a slope to thirty-five metres and a current that picks up around the point.
A reef top at five to seven metres with dense hard coral, dropping to thirty-five metres. Large vase sponges and sea fans on the slope, schools of jacks in the blue and now and then an eagle ray. Barracuda often hang around the point.
In a moderate current you can use; plan a drift dive along the point. Early in the day, before the afternoon wind sets in.
The current can speed up and turn around the point. Unpaved car park and an entry over grit. No shade, no water, no toilet.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
Punt Vierkant is one of the few real bends in Bonaire's leeward coast. Nearby stands the lighthouse that gave the point its English name; the Dutch name refers to the rectangular shape of the headland.
