Red Beryl lies on the quiet stretch of south coast between Pink Beach and the southern point. Little visitation comes, and it shows on the slope: the hard coral stands dense and without breakage.
Red Beryl is an advanced shore dive on the south coast: a reef top at six to eight metres with intact hard coral and a slope to thirty-eight metres.
A reef top at six to eight metres with dense hard coral and fan coral, dropping to thirty-eight metres. Large brain corals and vase sponges on the slope. Jacks along the edge and now and then a school of margate.
In moderate current, as a drift dive with the flow. Early in the day, when the light still falls at an angle on the top.
Few reference points: the coast looks the same for kilometres. No development and little traffic, so do not dive here alone. Verge along the coast road, no shade, no water, no toilet.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
The southern part of the coast is barely built up; between the salt pans and the lighthouse there is almost nothing. That explains why the reefs here are in better condition than by the villages.
