Corporal Meiss bears the name of a corporal who died in the Second World War. The dive is shallow and calm, with a reef that starts close to shore and drops away gradually.
Corporal Meiss is a beginner shore dive on the south coast: a reef top at four to six metres close to shore and a gradual slope to thirty metres.
A short sand strip to a reef top at four to six metres with finger coral, sponges and seagrass at the edges. The slope runs to thirty metres. Plenty of juvenile fish on the top, and stingrays on the sand.
In light wind, in the morning. Also suitable as a second dive because it stays shallow.
Little relief and little depth; those after walls are in the wrong place. In wind, murky over the top. Parking along the road in the district, no shade, no water, no toilet.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
During the war a garrison was stationed on Bonaire and an internment camp was set up at Playa Frans. Several place names along this coast recall that period; this entry is one of them.
