Chez Hines is one of the quiet entries along the residential district, with a broad sand flat between the shore and the reef. Hundreds of garden eels stand on that flat; the reef behind is ordinary but in reasonable condition.
Chez Hines is a beginner shore dive on the south coast: a sand flat with garden eels at six to ten metres, a reef top at eight metres and a slope to thirty.
A sand flat at six to ten metres with garden eels and foraging rays, then a reef top at eight metres dropping to thirty metres. Sponges and sea fans on the slope, with schools of grunts along the edge.
In light wind and in the morning, when the sand has not yet stirred up. The garden eels stand tallest if you approach slowly and low.
A long swim over sand before you reach the reef. In wind the visibility over the flat drops fast. Parking along the road in the district, no shade, no water, no toilet.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
The name comes from a house that served as a landmark; several entries along this coast bear the name of the house beside them. It is one of the last traces of the time before the coast was numbered and signposted.
