South Bay is a shallow bay on the south side of Klein Bonaire, with sand flats between coral heads. It is the calmest place on this side and a good choice for snorkelling or diving slowly.
South Bay is an advanced boat dive on the south side of Klein Bonaire: a shallow bay with sand flats at five to eight metres and a slope to thirty-five metres.
Sand flats at five to eight metres between coral heads, with seagrass around them. Turtles come here to graze and rays rest on the sand. Outside the bay the slope drops to thirty-five metres with sponges and sea fans.
In calm sea and offshore wind. In the morning, when the turtles are active and the sand has not yet stirred up.
In swell the bay is murky and the boat unsettled. The seagrass is fragile: do not stand in it, do not drag over it. Boat only, no facilities.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
The shallow south bays of Klein Bonaire are grazing grounds for green turtles and nurseries for reef fish. The beaches above them are nesting sites; in the breeding season a no-disturbance rule applies there.
