Nearest Point is exactly what the name says: the point of Klein Bonaire that lies closest to the main island, with the shortest crossing. On the point itself there is more current than on the rest of this side, and that draws fish.
Nearest Point is an advanced boat dive on Klein Bonaire: a reef top at five to seven metres, a slope to thirty-five metres and more current and fish around the point.
A reef top at five to seven metres that gives way on the point to a steeper slope to thirty-five metres. Schools of jacks and grunts hang in the moving water, with barracuda above. Sea fans and vase sponges on the slope.
In moderate current, as a drift dive around the point. In calm sea the boat can lie close to shore.
The current speeds up around the point and can turn. Little shallow water on the point section itself. Boat only, no facilities on the island.
Decisions on diveability, technique and health belong with STINAPA, a dive school or a doctor. This page only describes the conditions.
The strait between Bonaire and Klein Bonaire is narrowest at this point, about eight hundred metres. Through that narrowing more water runs along the coast, which draws fish and makes the dive livelier than the reefs beside it.
